Shullsburg Fee to Trust Land Acquisition Application

Environmental Impact Study

When a two-part determination is made by the Secretary of Interior on whether or not to approve a trust land application for a Native American Tribe, one of those determining parts is the answer to the question of whether or not the proposed trust land parcel will be detrimental to the surrounding community. Some form of formal study ensues.

In order to insure that there is will not be a detrimental impact on the surrounding community the standards and guidelines contained in the National Environmental Protection Act (NEPA) are applied - hence the full/formal Environmental Impact Study (EIS) to verify that the Shullsburg Casino Project will not only benefit the Lac du Flambeau Tribe, it will not be detrimental to the surrounding community.

Details of this aspect of the fee to trust application will be posted on this link as they become available.

A goal of the LDF Workgroup was to use as much of the pre-existing Shullsburg study data as possible for the EIS process. After a close assessment it was determined that the previous Air Quality, Noise and Traffic studies would have to be updated. The consideration of a non-gaming 3rd alternative was also to be required for the EIS. In February of 2014 the Tribal Council approved these updates and the work is currently underway.
